Happy New Year, Hawk!

I am back in the Oklahoma Outback, trying to get things ready to impart knowledge to the student body here! (or die trying!) It's a Sisyphus gig, sucky when the rock rolls back down on top of you, but as long as the paychecks keep on coming, I can put up with It!

I was glad to have the chance to drink beers with you, and I hope that the job search is working out for you! Having been where you are at, one thing that I can say is, when you are down and out, you find out who your true friends really are! Those are the people that you want to invite into your geothermally-heated lair when you shut off the sun! Take it from me, Hawk, I am a professional! I DO understand these things!
Best wishes for you and Monica this 2012, and lets hope that the Mayans were wrong about the whole December 21st, 2012 thingy. But if it turns out that they are right, you and your family are invited to the End Of The World party at my Lair! All-you-can-drink Margaritas! Plus no worries about the Tequila Hangover! (as we will all be annhilated shortly thereafter!

I can hate if I wanna...

Ok, it is great that we finally have evidence that our solar system wasn't a 1-off. It is pretty scary that infinite seems to mean, "nothing repeats all that regularly."

I attended the on-line JPL meeting where they went over all the Kepler Science. OMG... boring lectures on solar elemental content and planetary probabilities. It wasn't clear that planetary and spacecraft telescope data worked together at all. Very harsh comments and questions. Still, science crawls onward.
